Our Committees
Our chapter is democratically run, meaning we are facilitated, funded, and led by our membership. No one in Phoenix Metro DSA takes a salary. To ensure that our work proceeds effectively, responsibilities are dispersed into several chapter formations. Members are free to form new committees based on new projects and ideas, and can bring resolutions to the membership to receive funding. The specific details of this structure are elaborated upon in our bylaws.
When you join Phoenix DSA, you can join or participate in the activities of any committee as you see fit.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee is Phoenix Metro DSA’s democratically elected governing body. We establish program activities, set the agendas for Regular Meetings, and help coordinate work across other committees as guided by our membership. If you have any questions or recommendations, please email phxazdsa@gmail.com to get in touch with us.
Electoral Committee
The Electoral Committee is the home for democratic socialist ballot initiative and candidate campaigns in the greater Phoenix Metro area. Our Electoral Committee manages our chapter's standing Political Action Committee and our chapter's endorsement process. If you want to fight for democratic socialism at the ballot box, this is the committee for you!
Engagement Committee
The Engagement Committee is about making the DSA more than just a loosely connected group of organizers. It’s about making it a community. The engagement committee oversees socials and special events for the our chapter. Our weekly tuesday get togethers have become a mainstay of Phoenix DSA's activities. If you want to be a friendly face for the DSA, and to lead the charge on getting people involved, then the engagement committee is a home for you.
Mutual Aid Committee
The Mutual Aid Committee brings people together through community care and solidarity. We’re neighbors helping neighbors, coming together to meet urgent needs while building lasting connections and coalitions with others working toward a more compassionate world. Whether it’s offering our time, a helping hand, a smile, or essential resources, we support events throughout the Phoenix Valley. From distributing food, clothing, hydration supplies, hygiene items, pet care, and more to over 200 unhoused or housing-insecure individuals each week, to staffing cooling centers and stocking community fridges, we show up for each other. Mutual aid is how we build a better world.
Political Education Committee
Last fall, in 2024, the Political Education Committee launched its Book Club where we started off reading “27 Things They Don’t Tell You About Capitalism” and included a wide variety of authors from Ilhan Pappe to Jane McAlevey over the course of the last year.
Since launching the Book Club last fall, the Political Education Committee has also hosted a Communist Manifesto literature study in September.
The Political Education Committee has also created a Newsletter Subcommittee dedicated to communicate with our members about what’s happening in our chapter, as well as some “In this Month: Labor History” facts. While this committee is sparse in attendance, we have had some renewed enthusiasm in revamping the newsletter in August 2025! Stay tuned!
Communications Committee
The Phoenix Metro DSA communications committee brings members together to conduct a wide variety of tasks essential to the operation of our chapter, like maintaining the website, creating social media content, and aiding member campaigns.
